Graham, Young Post Season-Highs Against Chapman

LA VERNE, CA — Brooklyn Young matched a career-high six goals, but it wasn't enough as the Leopards fell at Las Flores Park to the Chapman University Panthers 17-9.

Young added four drawn exclusions and one assist. Anika Nichols finished with two goals, one assist, and three drawn exclusions. Kaitalin Smith notched one goal and one assist.

The squads started hot, combining for 10 goals in the first quarter. Nicolas gave the Leopards an early 3-2 lead three minutes into the game, but the Panthers responded with a 4-0 and held a 6-4 lead heading into the second quarter.

La Verne couldn't close the gap in the next two quarters, with the Panthers outscoring the Leopards 4-2 in both frames. Smith scored the Leopards' lone goal in the fourth.

Miranda Graham grabbed a season-high 13 saves, including several one-on-one attempts.

Kendall Pappan led the Panthers with eight goals.

The Leopards next play in the annual Convergence Tournament. The Leopards open the weekend slate on Friday with a 12:45 p.m. game against Augustana College (IL) at Cal State Fullerton. The Leopards will play their final three games of the tournament at Chapman University. They finish Friday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Marist University. On Saturday, they will square off with Austin College at 11 a.m. and finish with Iona University at 2:45 p.m.
