LA VERNE, CA – The University of La Verne men's soccer team picked up a big win against the Chapman University Panthers, 2-1, Saturday evening. The Leopards improve to 2-1-2 on the season and have yet to lose to SCIAC competition, moving to 1-0-1 in conference play.
Juan Manzano continued his hot start, adding his third goal of the season. In the 22nd minute, he broke the game open with a lovely shot in front of the net to put the Leopards up 2-1 off
Diego Soto's assist. Manzano also has three assists this season and leads the Leopards with nine total points.
In the 70th minute,
Kai Garza connected with
Carlos Cervantes for his first goal of the season, extending the lead to 2-0.
A late 81st-minute goal was not enough for Chapman, and the Leopards closed things out with a final score of 2-1.
Joshua Simonton tallied six saves for the second consecutive game to help La Verne pick up its first SCIAC win.
The Leopards continue conference play on Wednesday at the University of Redlands at 7 p.m.
