THOUSAND OAKS, CA — Joel Trejo scored an all-time goal as the University of La Verne men's soccer team faced the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen in a dramatic 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon.
The first goal of the match was a fifty-yard bomb. Trejo, who was playing in just his second game of the season, launched his long shot in the 14th minute and was the only scorer of the first half. The junior intercepted a pass at midfield, saw the keeper out of position, and booted his shot over the goalie's head to the back of the net. Trejo earned his first goal of the season and looks ready to be a key piece for this Leopard squad moving forward.
Early on in the second half,
Marcos Zambrano connected with the back of the net for his first goal of the season off an assist from
Josh Askins Jr. to put the Leopards up 2-0.
Despite some stellar play from
Joshua Simonton in goal, tallying five saves, the Kingsmen rallied and equalized with two goals later in the second half.?
The Leopards move to 3-2-4 overall and 1-1-2 in the SCIAC.
La Verne returns home Wednesday to take on the Whittier College Poets at 7 p.m. The Leopards are 3-0 at home this season and will attempt to keep their win streak at Ortmayer Stadium alive.
