Both seniors finished their La Verne journeys on a high note. Soto opened the SCIAC Championships with the Leopards'Â top score in Round 1, while Peromo closed with a tournament personal record.Â
Matt Rice, Baseball
Matt Rice was unstoppable at the plate in a dominant 3-0 week for the No. 7 Leopards. Rice finished with a .700 batting average, seven hits, six RBIs, six runs, two doubles, three walks, and was near perfect behind the plate. The Leopards outscored Chapman 42-6 in the series.

Isaiah Figueroa, Baseball
Isaiah Figueroa provided a huge spark, belting two home runs and driving in a career-high six runs in a 2-for-2 performance off the bench in the Leopards three game sweep of the Occidental Tigers.
Gennessy Ortega, Women's Track and Field
Gennessy Ortega added a PR in the long jump, finished second overall, and first among DIII Competitors. She set a new best mark of 5.38m (17' 8").

Kelly Jackson, Women's Water Polo
Kelly Jackson was outstanding in the cage for the Leopards. In a key win over Redlands, she was untouchable, recording 15 saves with several at point-blank range, including one penalty shot, and grabbed two steals while allowing just nine goals.
Ryan Vosika, Baseball
Ryan Vosika went 6-for-13 at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in two over the weekend against No. 15 Cal Lutheran.

Peyton Carrera, Women's Track & Field
Carrera notched two big personal bests in the 800m (2:19.42) and 1500m (4:53.76) to move her to #4 and #9 on the ULV all-time list.
Noah Garcia, Baseball
Garcia had a big weekend at the plate. He went 7-for-14 hitting .500 as three of them were doubles and one a triple. He also gathered four RBI's, three runs scored, and a stolen base.Â

Jason Bustos and Jay Wing tied for fourth individually and powered the No. 30 University of La Verne men's golf team to a strong showing at SCIAC No. 2, as the Leopards finished fifth overall in a competitive weekend at Antelope Valley Country Club.

Ethan Galindo, Baseball
Ethan Galindo was unhittable for the No. 6 Leopards. In game one against No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer, Galindo earned a complete game win, with no runs, two hits, no walks, and two strikeouts, leading La Verne to a seven-inning run-rule win. The Sagehens hit just .087 against the left-hander.

Angelina Alderete, Softball
Angelina Alderete showcased her speed and consistency at the plate this past weekend, batting .400 while going 6-for-15. The dynamic leadoff hitter was a constant offensive spark for the Leopards, scoring seven runs and swiping four stolen bases to keep the pressure on opposing defenses. Her ability to get on base and create scoring opportunities played a key role in La Verne’s success throughout the weekend series.
Finn McClure, Men's Track and Field
Finn McClure delivered an outstanding performance this past weekend, placing third overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:01.65. Competing against a strong field of Division II, Division III, and NAIA athletes, McClure emerged as the top Division III finisher, further solidifying his place among the best distance runners in the region. His impressive time also etched his name into La Verne history, ranking him fifth all-time in program history in the event.

Sydney Diaz, Softball
Sydney Diaz delivered a standout performance over the weekend, showcasing her consistency and impact at the plate for the Leopards. The senior went an impressive 4-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in two RBIs to help fuel La Verne’s offensive efforts. She also demonstrated her discipline at the plate with a walk and added a stolen base to her stat line, proving to be a threat both on the bases and in the batter’s box. Diaz’s all-around performance played a key role in the Leopards' success, setting the tone for a strong offensive weekend.
Nolan Anguiano, Baseball
Nolan Anguiano was unstoppable at the plate in a perfect 4-0 week for the No. 10 Leopards. The senior recorded an RBI and hit in every game, finishing with seven of each and a .467 batting average. In an 18-3 thrashing of MIT to end the week, Anguiano tallied three runs, two hits, two RBIs, and a walk.

Reiley Burton led the Leopards at the Convergence Tournament with 11 goals. She scored on .524 % of her shot attempts and totaled four blocks, three drawn exclusions, two steals, and two assists.
Matthew DesMarets, Baseball
Matthew DesMarets had an outstanding outing in the Leopards SCIAC opener at Whittier this week. The senior righty struck out 10 in seven innings of work, allowed just one earned run, and scattered three hits to lead the Leopards to a 6-2 win.

Jason Bustos, Men's Golf
Jason Bustos had an outstanding outing at SCIAC No.1, taking second overall. Bustos shot a 71 in the opening round and a 69 in round two to end the tournament with a four-under, 140. He finished the weekend with 10 birdies.

Ashley Rodriguez, Softball
Ashley Rodriguez is off to a strong start for the Leopards this season, delivering standout performances in both games against Brandeis on February 17. The senior outfielder showcased her power at the plate, going a combined 3-for-5 across the doubleheader while driving in six RBI's and scoring two runs. Rodriguez also displayed her ability to deliver in clutch moments, recording a homerun, two doubles, and a stolen base to help spark La Verne’s offense. With her consistent hitting and offensive production, she is proving to be a key contributor early in the season.
Logan Corthell, Baseball
Logan Corthell started the year hot, leading the Leopards to a 2-1 start including a sweep over No. 10 East Texas Baptist. The senior finished the week with six hits, four RBIs, six runs, two triples, a double, a walk, and a .462 average. He had his biggest game in a 13-6 win over the Tigers when he went 4-4 with four RBIs, four runs, one triple, one double, and a walk.

Marissa Howell, Women's Basketball
Marissa Howell added another outstanding week to her resume in a pair of games for the Leopards. Howell scored a game-high 21 points in a 77-61 win over Occidental off 7-15 shooting with three three-pointers. Against Cal Lutheran, she led all players with 18 points with five made three-pointers. She totaled four rebounds and three assists for the week.
Cody Aquino, Men's Basketball
Cody Aquino delivered an impressive performance this past week, setting a career high with 18 points, seven field goals made, three assists, four three-pointers, and five rebounds in the Leopards' matchup against California Lutheran University. He continued his strong play against Occidental, adding 15 points and four rebounds, showcasing his consistency and impact on both ends of the court.

Keilani Greer led the Leopards with wins in the 200 butterfly (2:24.67) and 100 freestyle (58.46) in a dual meet against Whittier. She pulled away early in the 200 fly and came from behind in the 50 yards of the 100 to just beat the competition.

He followed up this effort with a stellar game against Howard Payne University, shooting an impressive 58.3% from the field and notching a season-high 19 points. Annie Trinh, Women's Basketball
Annie Trinh had an absolute standout performance against Whitworth in the Tents this past week. Trinh delivered a career-best performance, scoring a game-high 27 points and grabbing nine rebounds. She was a sharpshooter from beyond the arc, going 7-for-11 on three-pointers and an impressive 10-for-18 from the field overall. Her dominant play was instrumental in leading the Leopards and showcased her growth and determination on the court.
Dahmaj Warren, Men's Basketball
Dahmaj Warren delivered an outstanding performance in the Leopards' victory over Westminster. Warren showcased his all-around dominance, leading the team with 27 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. He was highly efficient, shooting 10-for-16 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Alyssa Smith, Women's Basketball
Alyssa Smith posted double-doubles in three straight games on the road last week. She tallied 16 rebounds, 11 defensive rebounds, and 14 points in a win at Life Pacific. She followed with 11 rebounds, six defensive boards, and 14 points against Whitman. Smith nearly ended the week with a triple-double, grabbing a career-high 21 rebounds, 15 defensive rebounds, 10 points, and eight rebounds in a win over Chapman. Smith finished the week with 48 total rebounds, 32 defensive rebounds, 38 points, 14 assists, and three steals. Â
Dahmaj Warren, Men's Basketball
Dahmaj Warren continued to shine for the University of La Verne during their non-conference match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Roberts Pavilion. Playing the full 40 minutes, Warren led the Leopards' offense with an impressive 27 points. He demonstrated efficiency, shooting 7-for-16 from the field, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Warren’s ability to get to the line was pivotal as he sank 9 of his 12 free-throw attempts. Despite the team’s 94-67 loss, Warren’s standout performance highlighted his pivotal role as a leading scorer this season.

Jaden Feliciano showcased a strong performance at the Winter Swim Collegiate Invite, reaching the finals in two events. While his lifetime best is qualifying for four finals, his efforts this weekend demonstrate his consistency and commitment to excelling in his sport.

Mya Ray led the Leopard's to victory as they ended a perfect week. Going 6-0 in the SCIAC Tournament, Ray led her team to victory as they walked away SCIAC Tournament Champions and she was named the SCIAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Alam Chang-Barnuevo, Men's Water Polo
Alam Chang-Barnuevo had an outstanding finish to the 2024 season. Chang-Barnuevo scored nine goals in two games including seven in a dramatic overtime win over Occidental in the season finale. He scored the final two overtime goals to give the Leopards a 16-15 victory. He finished the week with three drawn exclusions and two steals.

Miranda McGarry, Women's Soccer
In the Leopards match-up against Caltech, the only goal came early in the first half when Miranda McGarry found the back of the net in the 20th minute, with an assist from Kylie Klein. Junior defender Kylie Klein skillfully drove the ball to the top of the box, then sent a precise pass to her left, finding Miranda McGarry. Spotting her opportunity, McGarry launched a powerful shot that soared over the Caltech goalkeeper’s head, curling into the top-right corner of the net and giving the Leopards an early lead.Â
Max De Anda, Men's Soccer
Maximilian De Anda ended the 2024 season and his Leopard career with a bang. He led the La Verne men’s soccer team to a 4-1 win over Whittier and a dominating 9-1 win against Bethesda in the season finale. De Anda assisted on the Leopards’ opening goal against Whittier and scored what proved to be the game-winner. He was a part of six of La Verne’s nine goals against Bethesda, recording his first hat trick and assisting on three goals.Â

Serenity De la Torre led the La Verne women’s soccer team to a crucial 3-1 win at Redlands. She assisted on the Leopards’ first goal when she stole the ball away and took a hard shot that deflected to Antonia Escobar who finished off the play. She doubled the lead early in the second half when she fired a shot to the back of the net.

Loza led the Leopard's in their match-up against Chapman, both in energy and in scoring. Loza split a pair of defenders and poked a shot into the back of the net in the second half, scoring the final goal that secured the victory.Â

Junior forward led La Verne to a close victory over Redlands this week. Smick opened up the game in the 53rd minute when she quickly found herself an opening inside the box where she fired a shot into the net to help secure an important home win.
Peter Trinh, Men's Water Polo
Peter Trinh had a massive defensive performance in La Verne's 15-14 overtime win at Occidental. He posted four field blocks including two in the fourth quarter to give the Leopards a chance to win. One of his blocks led to the Leopard's game-tying goal to overcome a three-goal fourth-quarter deficit and force the extra period. Trinh added three goals, one steal, and one drawn exclusion.

Kat has been a consistent force for the Leopards. She finished the week with 10 kills including eight against CMS and seven kills to help La Verne earn two wins.
Adan Villareal, Men's Soccer
Adan Villarreal led the La Verne men’s soccer team with two goals last week. Against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps he grabbed a long pass from goalie Hector Duenas-Pena, outran a defender, and fired a shot to the back of the net to give the Leopards a chance late. At Pomona-Pitzer, he helped the Leopards overcome a 2-0 deficit with a goal from the top corner of the box to help La Verne leave with a 2-2 tie. Villarreal is tied for third in the SCIAC with seven goals.

Madison Smith, Women's Volleyball
Madison Smith was everywhere on the floor in a perfect week for the Leopards. The senior led the Leopards with 18 digs in a sweep over Chapman and followed it up with 15 digs in a 3-0 at Cal Lutheran. Smith finished the week with eight assists and two aces.
Jordan Baker, Men's Water Polo
Jordan Baker led the University of La Verne to three wins at the Gary Troyer Tournament last week. The sophomore scored 20 goals with 17 assists, nine steals, five drawn exclusions, and two field blocks. In sudden death overtime against UC Merced, Baker fired a shot from distance to give the Leopards an 18-17 win. He finished the game with four goals, four assists, one steal, and one block. He netted a career-high six goals with two assists and a steal in a 14-9 win over Johns Hopkins. He dished out a game-high four assists with two steals and a goal against Division I Air Force and finished the tournament with four goals, two assists, two drawn exclusions, and two steals in a 17-12 win over Connecticut College. Earlier in the week Baker led La Verne with five goals, three steals, and two drawn exclusions in the Leopards’ SCIAC opener.

Courtney Okumura, Women's Soccer
Courtney Okumura capped La Verne's women’s soccer 4-0 win over Caltech, assisting on the opening goal and scoring one of her own in the 69th minute. She helped start the scoring when she chipped a pass into the box to Megan Llopis who knocked it to the back of the net for the early lead. Okumura stamped the win when she was alone in the box, grabbed a pass, and put it away to put the Leopards up 4-0.
Adan Villarreal, Men's Soccer
Adan Villareal led the Leopards to a 2-0 start in SCIAC play. The senior forward led the Leopards with a brace at Whittier scoring both goals in a span of 12 minutes. Villarreal gave La Verne the lead in the 41st minute when he headed in a goal off a cross from the far side of the field by Angel Loza. He scored his second goal seven and a half minutes into the second period when he drove into the box and beat the keeper to the near side.

Marissa Hehir, Women's Cross Country
Marissa Hehir led the Leopards with a 17th-place finish in a field filled with runners from all NCAA Divisions, NAIA, and junior colleges. Hehir crossed with a personal best time of 18:11, cutting 31 seconds off her time. Hehir's mark is the second fastest 5K time in La Verne history, only behind two-time national champion Lenore Moreno's time of 17:53 set in 2012.
De Lante' Moore, Football
De Lante’ Moore and the La Verne defense set the tone early against Puget Sound. On the Logger's opening drive on the La Verne 47-yard line, Vicente Zepeda forced a fumble in the backfield, and De Lante' Moore scooped up the ball and scampered 52 yards to the end zone. Moore totaled a career-best 14 total tackles, six solo tackles, and added a quarterback hurry.

Peter Trinh, Men's Water Polo
Peter Trinh led the Leopards in points and goals at the Inland Empire Tournament. He netted 17 goals and tied a team-high three assists for 20 points in a 2-2 showing for La Verne. Trinh also drew seven exclusions and added six steals. He saved his best for last, scoring six goals with two assists in a 15-10 win over Ottawa University Arizona. He scored three goals with two steals and an assist in the Leopards' 13-11 victory over NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific. The Leopards only lost to DI opponents No. 12 UC Santa Barbara and No. 20 Cal Baptist.
Abigail Macedo, Women's Soccer
Abigail Macedo grabbed 12 saves in a pair of games for La Verne. Macedo did her part to keep the Leopards competitive, allowing just one goal while turning away 27 total shots in 180 minutes in front of the net.

Mya Ray, Volleyball
Mya Ray continued her dominant start to the season, leading the No. 11 Leopards to a 4-0 performance at the Whittier Invitational. Ray led the Leopards with 56 kills and 10 aces in the wins. She also made a mark defensively, racking up 46 digs and 16 blocks. She posted 18 kills with a .302 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win against Puget Sound. Her best overall game came in a five-set thriller over UC Santa Cruz, totaling 14 kills, three aces, and five blocks.
Isaiah McNaught-Thornton, Football
Monterey Peninsula College transfer Isaiah McNaught-Thornton led the Leopards with 108 receiving yards on four receptions. He tied the game up late in the second quarter when he ran past the Willamette secondary on a go route for an easy score.

Allison Whiteman, Volleyball
Allison Whiteman had an outstanding debut for the No. 15 Leopards in the Pacific Coast Classic. She tied a team-high seven blocks and added 13 digs in La Verne's 3-0 showing. She played her best game against Skidmore, totaling four blocks, five aces, and nine kills with a .615 hitting percentage. Whiteman hit .556 with 28 kills and 11 aces.
Thomas Taniguchi, Men's Cross Country
Thomas Taniguchi paced the Leopards at the Mark Covert Classic hosted at Carbon Regional Park to open the season. The junior cross first for La Verne with a time of 25:57.3.
