Kevin Reid, a veteran coach with more than 30 years of experience at the collegiate and international levels, has been head coach of the University of La Verne’s track and field program since 2017. Under his leadership, La Verne student-athletes have consistently excelled, earning 15 SCIAC individual or relay titles, 14 NCAA Championships qualifications, and three All-American honors, while also capturing conference awards including SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year and SCIAC Field Athlete of the Year.
International Coaching Career
Reid has been a cornerstone of USA Track & Field (USATF) since 1990, serving in roles at every U.S. Olympic Team Trials since 1992 and every USA Track & Field Championships since 1990. He has coached in three Olympic Games, including guiding Bryan Clay to the gold medal in the decathlon at the 2008 Beijing Games and the silver medal at Athens 2004.
Reid has also held multiple USATF coaching assignments, including head coach for the Thorpe Cup combined events team in 2005 and 2015. His international coaching résumé includes:

Collegiate Coaching Success Before La Verne
Prior to La Verne, Reid spent 22 seasons as head men’s track and field coach at Azusa Pacific University, where he built one of the nation’s elite programs. Under his leadership, the Cougars captured 14 national championships, including a streak of five straight indoor and outdoor titles, and produced an average of 11 All-Americans per year. Reid earned 13 NAIA Coach of the Year awards and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2014.

Education & Personal Life
Reid earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Azusa Pacific in 1988 and his master’s in education from APU in 2001. Reid competed in track and field at Azusa Pacific, earning two NAIA team championships (1986, 1988) as a hurdler. He was also a two-year letterman on the Cougar football team, starting as a defensive back for nationally ranked squads in 1985 and 1986.He resides in Pomona with his wife Stacey. They have two sons Jonathan and Zachary. Jonathan was a professional baseball player in the Washington Nationals organization. Zachary is one of the most decorated athletes in La Verne history. His accolades include three SCIAC Championships in the 110m hurdles, four NCAA Championship appearances, and setting the ULV program and SCIAC all-time record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.31, breaking both the ULV program record and the SCIAC all-time record, which had stood since 1976.
