Martin Bacon Jr. brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the University of La Verne football program, where he joins the staff for the 2025 season. A dedicated educator and mentor, Bacon has built a reputation for developing disciplined, high-performing teams across Southern California’s high school and junior college ranks. His career began at his alma mater, Etiwanda High School, and has since included impactful stops at Citrus College, Burbank, Covina, Oak Hills, and Montclair High Schools.

As Head Coach at Montclair, Bacon led the program to its first-ever CIF Division 13 Runner-Up finish in 2021, producing 14 All-CIF players during his tenure. At Covina, his defensive units ranked among the top in Division 11, helping the team reach two second-round playoff appearances and a CIF finals berth in 2017. While at Burbank High, his defenses earned Top 5 rankings three times in four years, guiding the program to multiple playoff runs and developing over 16 All-CIF defenders. His junior college experience includes five seasons at Citrus College, where he served as Defensive Coordinator and helped the Owls capture the 2005 Western State Conference South Division Title and reach the CCCAA Southern California Semifinals.

Known for building top-tier defensive schemes and cultivating leadership on and off the field, Coach Bacon emphasizes character, accountability, and community connection. He holds a Master’s in Education from National University and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Cal State Northridge, where he was the Big Sky Newcomer of the Year in 2000 and earned All-Conference honors in 2001. He also played at Chaffey College, earning All-Conference honors as a defensive back.

Outside of football, Bacon enjoys spending time with his wife and four daughters, exploring new restaurants, traveling, and playing racquetball. A coach who values mentorship and service, Bacon is driven by the opportunity to impact student-athletes and future coaches alike. He is excited to bring his experience and passion to La Verne as part of a program focused on growth, integrity, and excellence.
