LA VERNE, CA — The Leopards led 1-0 with under 90 seconds to play and looked poised to upset the first-place Redlands Bulldogs.
But the Bulldogs found a way to score two goals late, spoiling the Leopards' would-be victory, 2-1.
With 1:23 left to play, La Verne was called for a handball in the box and Redlands was awarded a penalty kick. Spencer Palmer converted the attempt to even the game 1-1.
While the Leopards were still recovering from the equalizer and aggressively trying to retake the lead, the Bulldogs retook possession after a long La Verne throw-in. They quickly switched fields and attacked, and Julian Weber kicked a shot past diving La Verne keeper, Hector Duenas-Peña for the 2-1 advantage.
After a long stalemate,
Owen Osagiede gave the Leopards the opening lead of the game in the 74th minute when he gathered a deflected shot in the box, and sent it to the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Duenas-Peña had an outstanding game for the Leopards, making several diving saves and finishing with seven total saves.
The Leopards move to 4-5-4 overall and 0-4-4 in the SCIAC.
La Verne returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Claremont to face the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.
