Football Struggles at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CA — In a showdown on Saturday night, the California Lutheran University Kingsmen clashed with the University of La Verne football team, beating the young Leopard squad 55-0.

Makena Ramos-Kamaka added a bright spot for the Leopards and finished with a game-high 103 receiving yards on just six catches. His biggest catch came early in the second quarter when quarterback Nick Garcia connected with him for a 30-yard completion. Garcia finished the game with 167 yards through the air.

The Kingsmen wasted no time, swiftly asserting themselves in the first quarter. Cal Lutheran quarterback JP Andrade orchestrated a Kingsmen opening drive that resulted in a two-yard touchdown pass to Cade Cadam. Dylan Turner added a four-yard run to expand Cal Lutheran's lead to 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.

Chase Yanez led all players with seven tackles, and Aidan Clinton and David Vega each contributed six tackles. Anthony Esquivel added five tackles and a sack.

The Leopards have an opportunity to rebound next Saturday, October 14, when they host the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags at 2 p.m. for Homecoming. Saturday will also mark the culmination of inauguration week for the University of La Verne's 19th President, Dr. Pardis Mahdavi.
