Men's Soccer Ties Pomona-Pitzer on Villareal’s Equalizer

LA VERNE, CA – After falling behind 1-0 in the opening minutes of a Saturday night contest against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, the University of La Verne Leopards fought hard defensively, scored an early second-half goal, and finished with their season's fourth tie, 1-1.

The Sagehens kicked off the match and made their mark at Ortmayer Stadium almost instantly. First-year midfielder Keyon Namdar scored just 1:30 into the contest, winning a one-on-one battle against Leopards' keeper Logan Reese with a short left-footed dart. From that point on, Reese was lights out; he finished with five saves, including four in the second half.

La Verne's leading goal scorer Adan Villareal notched his ninth goal of the season just minutes into the second half. He swiftly recovered a deflection from Sagehens' keeper Ethan Bae and tapped in the equalizer. Following Saturday's action, Villareal is in a three-way tie among the SCIAC's top scorers.

Both teams collected their season's fourth tie and will search for a victory this upcoming Wednesday. Pomona-Pitzer will aim for their second SCIAC win on Wednesday at home versus California Lutheran University. The Leopards will host the University of Redlands on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in hopes to break their even .500 record.
