Leopards’ Late Score Not Enough at Chapman

ORANGE, CA – The University of La Verne football team managed a score late but fell on the road to Chapman 37-7.

"We had chances on both sides of the ball to capitalize and either score points or get the crucial stop when we needed it. We had some great team and individual play. Our defense did a great job in the first half keeping us in striking range, but we couldn't overcome a couple of big plays in the second half," said University of La Verne football head coach Chris Krich.

La Verne was held silent until a 13-play, 65-yard drive concluded with a goal-line rush from Tevin Bowie to put the Leopards on the board. It was Bowie's second rushing touchdown of the season after scoring at Redlands last week.

Max Jimenez kicked a successful point-after attempt, improving to 11-12 on extra points for the season with one field goal under his belt.

Chapman scored a first-quarter touchdown and relied on Ken Baierl's consistent boot for two field goals before entering halftime with a 13-0 lead. The Panthers' kicker notched his third field goal to start the second half scoring, then Chapman's Amir Adams caught two touchdowns within minutes of each other to put the game away.

Artist Orange II had five tackles in the game and added a pair of pass breakups. Oscar Montenegro matched Orange with five tackles of his own.

Freshman quarterback Brian Rudden passed for 306 yards in the game. He connected five times with Makena Ramos-Kamaka who totaled 82 receiving yards in the game. Rudden's biggest play was a 50-yard connection to running back Jonathan Berus that set the Leopards up inside the Chapman 10 yard-line.

"We have our last game of the season this Saturday at home vs Cal Lutheran. We will be fighting to finish the season off with a victory to help propel us with momentum into the off-season," added Krich.

The Leopards and Kingsmen will kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 11 at Ortmayer Stadium.
