LA VERNE, Calif. - Returning to Ortmayer Stadium for the second time this week, the University of La Verne men's soccer team clashed with the George Fox University Bruins.Â
The scoreboard saw no action in the opening half of the match. Then an early penalty in the second half afforded the Bruins an opportunity to strategize and break the game's goalless spell with a penalty kick. Yet, the Leopards rose to the challenge, using this setback as fuel for their own offensive play. Leopard Oscar Mendoza, guided by the crafty Adan Villarreal, fired a shot into the back of the net, drawing the game level at 1-1.
Throughout the second half, Mario Urbina and Michael Duran spearheaded offensive efforts, launching several shots that went wide.Â
With the clock ticking down to mere seconds, a critical penalty kick was awarded to the Bruins with seconds left in the match. Although the initial attempt was saved by Reese, the George Fox capitalized on the rebound, beating out Reese's second save attempt and putting the ball in the back of the net. The game concluded with a final score of 1-2 George Fox.
The Leopards return to Ortmayer Stadium on Wednesday, September 13th, for an evening showdown against Bethesda University (California) at 7 pm.
