SCIAC Opener Falls Short For Leos Against Bulldogs

by Cyanna Rosa

LA VERNE, Calif - In the SCIAC season opener, the University of La Verne Men's Water Polo team hosted the University of Redlands Bulldogs at Las Flores Park. Throughout the day, the Leopards encountered challenges but took advantage of several offensive opportunities.

The morning began with senior Peter Trinh unleashing a shot from the heart of the action to secure the first Leopard goal. The second goal of the day unfolded with a pass from returning Leo, Jaden Javier, followed by a delicate touch from Junior Sawyer Nering.

Freshman Jordan Baker added to the Leopards' offensive stats by delivering a remarkable long shot from the right side of the pool, finding the right corner of the net. The first half ended with a crucial block by Ryan Beery, with the Leopards trailing by seven at 3-10.

As the second half commenced, the Leopards attempted a spirited comeback, advancing to the offensive line. Nicolo Buono guided the ball past the Bulldog goalie twice, narrowing the scoreline to 5-10.

La Verne battled throughout the match, including a late shot by Ryan Beery to add him to the scoreboard. Ultimately the Leopards were unable to prevail, and the win went to the Bulldogs, 6-18.

Looking ahead, the Leopards are geared up for their next SCIAC showdown against Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, September 27th at Las Flores Park at 4pm. Watch the action firsthand or tune in to our website for a live stream view from any device.
