LA VERNE, Calif. - In a thrilling kickoff to Conference play, the University of La Verne's Volleyball team faced off against the Cal Lutheran Regals at home in the Tents.Â
Building on their competitive pre-season, the Leopards secured a significant victory against the Regals in the first SCIAC match of the season, setting the stage for exciting regular season Conference competition in the upcoming weeks.
The Leopard middles,
Zacky Coaston (.500) and
Ayana Mier (.450), were show front runners. Other noteworthy contributors who made significant impacts during the match included
Lauren Gott with 12 kills and 19 digs; and
Mya Ray, who contributed 10 kills and 11 digs.Â
Malia Capistrano demonstrated exceptional court leadership with 40 assists and 12 digs.Â
The first two set scored mirrored each, and the Leopards won both with final scores of 25-19. La Verne continued to dominate and finished the 3-0 win with a final set score of 25-14 victory.
Head Coach
Jeff Hendershot praised the team's performance stating, "It was a good win tonight. Our middles really stepped up, contributing a combined 18 kills with just two errors. It's always a great feeling to face off against Cal Lu and emerge victorious."
The Leopards who are now 10-0 are geared up for their next SCIAC match at Whittier College on Saturday September 23rd at 6 pm.Â
