No. 12 Leopards Rout Oxy, Win Sixth Straight

LOS ANGELES — The No. 12 University of La Verne volleyball team dominated in Eagle Rock, swept the Occidental Tigers, and won their sixth straight match Wednesday night.

The Leopards, who moved up three spots in the AVCA Poll after upsetting No. 13 Claremont-Mudd Scripps last week, have beaten their opponents 18-1 in combined sets during the win streak with five sweeps.

La Verne improved to 15-3 overall and moved into first place in the SCIAC with a 7-1 record. La Verne hit .270 in the match and held the Tigers to a -.010 hitting percentage.

Mya Ray, fresh off winning her third SCIAC Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week award, led the Leopards with 16 kills with a .400 hitting percentage. It is Ray's fourth time hitting .400 or better this season. She added two blocks, one ace, and two digs.

Lauren Gott posted seven kills, a team-high eight digs, one block, and one assist. Two-time, reigning SCIAC Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week Zacky Coaston finished with three blocks, four kills, and a dig.

Malia Capistrano led the Leopards with 16 assists and surpassed 1,400 career assists. She moved her career total to 1,407. She finished with six digs, three aces, and a kill.

Several La Verne freshmen shined in the win. Mariah Ray led the Leopards with five blocks to go with four kills. Isabella Emanuele had a solid performance, posting nine assists, three digs, and an ace. Kimi Watanabe-Mayhew finished with three blocks, three digs, and one kill. Valerie Gallegos totaled four kills on just five attacks with a block. Tova Craig tallied two digs.

Allison Whiteman totaled two kills, three aces, six digs, and one assist. Vanessa Marquez finished with five digs and three assists.

Lexi Giacobbe added two kills, one block, and one dig. Kaitlyn Patterson ended with seven digs and an ace.

Sydne Humprey totaled with four assists and three digs. Kiley McGarry dug five balls, CC Flaherty contributed two, and Madison Smith added three with three assists. Kaitlyn Bloomer finished with a block.

The Leopards have the weekend off and return to action at Chapman on Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
