LA VERNE, CA — The No. 15 Leopards put together one of its best performances of the year, posted their third-straight sweep, and claimed second place in the SCIAC with a 3-0 win over the Whittier College Poets.
With the win, the University of La Verne volleyball team earns home-court advantage in the SCIAC Semifinals on Thursday, November 14 at 7 p.m. It will be a rematch of Saturday's Senior Day win with the Poets returning to The Tents.
No. 12 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earned the top seed in the tournament and will host the winner of four-seed Pomona-Pitzer and five-seed Chapman University on Thursday night. The Sagehens and Panthers play Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Pomona-Pitzer.
Zacky Coaston put on a historic performance. The sophomore recorded a career-high 15 total blocks in the win. The Fontana native frustrated the Poets' offense and helped hold Whittier to just .053 hitting.
While Coaston led the defense,
Mya Ray led the Leopards' attack with 17 kills on .382 hitting with nine digs and five blocks.
Lauren Gott posted eight kills and
Allison Whiteman added seven.
Mariah Ray added six blocks and five kills.
Kaitlyn Patterson and
Madison Smith each tallied 11 digs.
Sydne Humphrey dished a game-high 18 assists with 10 digs.
Malia Capistrano dealt 16 assists.
The Leopards end the regular season with a 21-5 overall record and a 13-3 SCIAC record.
