LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's soccer team ended their season with a 1-0 victory over the Caltech Beavers at Ortmayer Stadium. The SCIAC matchup marked the Leopards' final game of the season, bringing their record to 7-7-5 overall and 4-6-3 in conference play, while Caltech ended at 3-12-1 and 2-10-0 in SCIAC.
The game's only goal came early in the first half when
Miranda McGarry found the back of the net in the 20th minute, with an assist from junior defender
Kylie Klein. Klein skillfully drove the ball to the top of the box, then sent a precise pass to her left, finding McGarry. Spotting her opportunity, McGarry launched a powerful shot that soared over the Caltech goalkeeper's head, curling into the top-right corner of the net and giving the Leopards an early lead.
La Verne controlled much of the play, tallying 18 shots with 13 on target, while Caltech managed seven shots, four of which were on goal. La Verne's senior goalkeeper,
Abigail Macedo, saved all four shots she faced, while Caltech's Haleigh Gardner also made 12 saves in a strong performance.
Throughout the match, both teams exhibited a defensive intensity, with an equal eight fouls each, however, the Leopards' effective defense ensured Caltech couldn't equalize.
Although the season comes to a close after this game, the Leopards ended on a positive note with this hard-fought win, as they look forward to building on this momentum in future seasons.
