McClure Leads MXC with All-SCIAC Performance

BREA, CA — Finn McClure posted an All-SCIAC performance as the University of La Verne men's cross country team competed at the 2024 SCIAC Championships.

McClure led the Leopards to a 17th-place finish, and the Leopards took fifth as a team, just nine points away from a top-four finish. The top 20 runners earn All-SCIAC honors.

McClure finished with a time of 25.46, 23 seconds faster than his showing on the same course earlier in the year at the Mark Covert Invitational.

"Finn ran a super smart first half and gutsy second half to grab 17th place and Second Team All-SCIAC honors," said University of La Verne Cross Country head coach Rob Lander.

Zyeir Shabete just missed his first all-conference award, crossing in 21st place. Shabete ran 32 seconds faster than he did at Mark Covert, ending at 25:50.

Fernando Cortez Jr. finished third for the Leopards (26:09.50) in 25th place and Thomas Taniguchi followed in 30th place (26:23.)

Destino Soto posted a time of 26:40. Isaac Stockton showed major improvement from his last time on the course. He ran 27:08, 1:53 faster than at Mark Covert.

The Leopards compete next on Saturday, November 16 when they head to Portland for the NCAA West Regionals hosted by Lewis and Clark.
