Hot Fourth Quarter Leads WBB to Win Over Panthers

SANTA CRUZ, CA — The University of La Verne women's basketball team had a big fourth quarter to end their road trip with a 68-56 nonconference win over Chapman University on Sunday.

Notables
  • Alyssa Smith nearly notched a triple-double and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds. She added 10 points and eight assists. Smith has notched four double-doubles in a row
  • Christen Ziska led all players with 17 points off three three-pointers, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • Marissa Howell was hot from deep, shooting 50 percent from beyond the mark to finish with 15 points. She added two rebounds, two steals, one block, and one assist.
  • Allison McGill scored 13 points off 5-9 shooting, grabbed three rebounds, dished two assists, and seized two steals.
  • Annie Trinh totaled seven rebounds and three steals. 
How it Happened
  • The Panthers held a 16-3 lead with two minutes remaining in the first quarter but La Verne responded with a 9-0 run highlighted by three-pointers from Smith and Howell.
  • La Verne outscored Chapman 19-13 in the second to take a two-point lead at the half.
  • The Leopards entered the fourth leading 43-41 then caught fire in the final 10 minutes.
  • La Verne netted 25 points in the fourth led by Ziska's nine points to take the win.
