REDLANDS, CA — The No. 21 University of La Verne baseball team finished a three-game series Sunday afternoon with a pair of wins over Redlands.
Game 1: La Verne 7, Redlands 2
Noah Garcia scored three of the Leopards' runs in the win. Logan Reese drove in two runs, and Nathan Perry, Nolan Anguiano, Jason Givens, and Malachi Francois each added one RBI.
The Leopards found themselves in an early deficit after the Bulldogs hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
La Verne quickly erased the deficit in the top half of the next inning following a Francois RBI single and Givens scoring on a fielding error.
A ground out RBI by Anguiano in the fourth put La Verne on top, and the Leopards put the game away, scoring four runs in the final two innings.
Matthew Diaz, Perry, and Jared Benash each had two hits.
All-American Gerald Terry earned the win, pitching six innings with five strikeouts.
Game 2: La Verne 17, Redlands 10
The Leopards got hot in the second inning, scoring six runs and jumping out to an 8-2 lead on their way to the series win. La Verne finished with 19 hits in the game. The Bulldogs tried matching the Leopards' hot hitting with 11 hits but couldn't recover from the early hole.
Left Fielder Nathan Perry led La Verne with four RBIs off 3-6 hitting with three runs and a double. Anguiano, Garcia, Benash, and Matt Rice each drove in two runs. Rice finished with two doubles, and Anguiano added a triple.
The Leopards rolled early, scoring multiple runs in the first five innings to take a 15-9 lead into the sixth.
Ethan Galindo picked up the win, pitching three and a third innings of relief.
Season Impact
The Leopards improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC.
Next Game
The Leopards travel to Marshall, Texas to play a three-game series against East Texas Baptist. The series starts Friday, March 8th at 5 p.m.
