ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo took on Chapman University in a top-four SCIAC matchup. La Verne stayed close early, but the Panthers' second-quarter run was too much for the Leopards as they fell on the road 12-9.
Graduate student Sumi Rudisky scored three goals to lead the Leopards offensively, including two in the final minutes. Rudisky was one goal shy of tying her season-high.
Reiley Burton, Olivia Taylor, and Brooklyn Young scored two goals each in the loss. Alta Loma native Kelly Jackson grabbed eight saves in 32 minutes in the cage.
The Leopards tied 2-2 off a goal from Young with four minutes of play left in the 1st quarter. The Panthers made a 4-0 second-quarter run to take their biggest lead of the game. La Verne outscored the Panthers 5-1 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough.
La Verne moves to fourth place in the SCIAC with a 5-4 conference record.
