WHITTIER, CA — The University of La Verne softball team traveled to take on Whittier College to finish off the final series of the 2024 season after a big senior day win at home last night. La Verne fell to Whittier College in both games Saturday afternoon.
Game One: Whittier College 5, La Verne 1
The Leopards fell behind early, giving up three runs in the second inning and two in the third for a 5-0 deficit heading into the fourth inning. Junior outfielder Ashley Rodriguez hit a double to right center to bring in senior Taylor Gray for the Leopards' only score of the game.
La Verne finished with nine hits but was unable to move runners along leaving seven Leopards on base in the game.
Game Two: Whittier College 6, La Verne 2
Mia Pintado singled through the right side for an RBI bringing in Angelina Alderete for the early 1-0 lead. After two errors by the Poets in the first inning, the Leopards continued the rally with Cassandra Zapata hitting a groundout RBI to score Pintado to extend the lead, to 2-0.
Despite Whittier College's four errors, La Verne's two errors were costly, building momentum for the Poets in the 6-2 loss.
2024 Season
The Leopards finish the 2024 regular season 13-24 overall and 7-14 in SCIAC play.
