LA VERNE, CA — The goals keep coming for the Leopards. After a dramatic come-from-behind win last time out, the University of La Verne women's soccer team needed no theatrics to earn a dominant 3-0 win over Stanton University.
Kayla Allen led the Leopards with a goal and an assist, a game after notching an assist and drawing a crucial penalty against Life Pacific.
Seventeen minutes into the match,
Ana Preciado lofted the ball toward Allen just outside of the box. Off a bounce, Allen darted a shot straight over the keepers' outstretched arm to give La Verne the 1-0 lead.
Antonia Escobar scored her second goal of the week just over 10 minutes later. This time it was Allen with the assist who launched a pass to an unmarked Escobar in the box. Escobar headed the ball into the net to double the advantage.
Eden Engebretsen put the final touches on the win with just under 10 minutes remaining. She took a shot in the box that was initially saved but knocked in the rebound for her first career goal as a Leopard.
The Leopards continued their bombardment of their opponents. La Verne registered 26 shots against the Elks and took 30 shots in their last game. The Leopards have scored six goals in their previous two games.
The stingy Leopard defense allowed just one shot in the game.
La Verne improves to 2-1-1 on the season. The Leopards will be back in action next against NAIA Westcliff University at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10 at OC Great Park Soccer Stadium.
