Warren Scores 34, Leopards Leave Texas 2-0

MARSHALL, TX — Dahmaj Warren scored a career-high 34 points and the University of La Verne men's basketball team ended their Texas road trip 2-0 with a 93-88 win over Howard Payne University.

La Verne has won four games in a row, bringing their record to 5-5.

Three other Leopards finished in double figures. Paul Antonis notched his second double-double of the season, ending with 19 points and 10 rebounds with three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Sharodd Lewis posted his best scoring performance as a Leopard, dropping 14 points off 5-6 shooting with five boards and two steals.

Joshua Rook nearly added a double-double of his own. The senior finished with 19 points off three three-pointers with eight rebounds. Cody Aquino and Logen Howard scored seven points apiece.

The Leopards started hot with Rook draining a shot from beyond the arc to start the scoring. La Verne opened the game with a 13-0 lead spurred by six points from Lewis, The Leopards never trailed.

La Verne led by as many as 15 in the second half before Howard Payne began to close the gap in the final five minutes. But the Leopards made 8-10 free throws down the stretch to hold on to the win.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 7-7.

La Verne returns to SCIAC actions this Wednesday when they travel to Redlands for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
