Leopards Can't Complete Comeback Against Sagehens

LA VERNE, CA - The University of La Verne men's soccer team continued SCIAC play on Wednesday night, falling to the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens 2-1.

With the help of reigning Leopard of the Week and defender Uli Sevilla, Midfielder Juan Manzano was able to sneak the ball into the net past Pomona-Pitzer's keeper in the 70th minute of play to put the Leopards on the board. The goal marked Manzano's third of the season, as he continues to play a key role in powering La Verne's offense.

The Sagehens took an early 2–0 lead in the first period. Despite several close shots and strong offensive pressure, the Leopards struggled to find the back of the net, finishing with 20 total shots — nine of them on goal, including four from Sevilla and three from Israel Jimenez Ramirez.

Yahir Hernandez had the the best chance of the first half late in the period when he headed of shot that went off the woodwork. Kevin Arreola and Sevilla both had chanced from the left side fo the earlier in the first but the Sagehens turned them away both times.

The Leopards (5-6-3, 3-4-1 SCIAC) will look to regroup this Saturday, October 18th when they travel to Los Angeles to play the Occidental Tigers at 4 p.m.
