Leopards Dominate Caltech

PASADENA, CA - The top-ranked University of La Verne women's volleyball team kept its undefeated season rolling on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Caltech in straight sets (25-18, 25-9, 25-12) at the Braun Athletic Center. With the win, the Leopards improve to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in SCIAC play. 

From the opening serve, La Verne's depth and balance were on display. After a steady first-set win, the Leopards caught fire in the second frame, hitting .357 as a team while holding the Beavers to a negative percentage. By the third, the attack was unstoppable; La Verne swung at a blistering .483 clip, closing out the sweep with authority.

Mya Ray led the offense with 11 kills on .429 hitting while also contributing 10 digs and two aces. Lauren Gott was efficient with eight kills on .571 hitting and added a block, while Abigail Montana provided a spark off the bench with five kills at a .500 clip and three blocks. Mariah Ray chipped in four kills and three block assists, and Zacky Coaston added four kills and three more blocks to fuel the front line. 

The Leopards also showcased their setting depth and defensive consistency. America Reynaga guided the attack with 16 assists and 15 digs, while Vanessa Marquez dished out 11 assists and collected three digs. Libero Keilani Mumolo steadied the back row with five digs, and contributions came from up and down the roster, with 12 different Leopards recording at least a point. 

La Verne finished the match with 38 kills, 58 digs, and 18 total blocks, while holding Caltech to a -.044 hitting percentage. 

Up next, La Verne welcomes the University of Redlands to The Tents for a 7 p.m. matchup on Friday, October 10 as conference play rolls on.
