Leopards Sweep Redlands to Advance to SCIAC Tournament Championship

LA VERNE, CA - The nationally ranked No. 2 University of La Verne volleyball team looked like a team on a mission Thursday night. With the memory of their lone loss still fresh, the Leopards came back stronger-determined to show just how far they've come-and swept Redlands in commanding fashion (25-11, 25-23, 25-17) in the SCIAC Tournament semifinals inside a packed Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

From the first serve, the Leopards played with a spark. Fueled by energy, composure, and a roaring home crowd, La Verne wasted no time setting the tone. Every rally carried purpose, every point came with intensity, and every player seemed locked into the moment. The Leopards hit a blistering .464 in the opening set and never looked back, keeping Redlands off balance with sharp execution and relentless defense.

Mya Ray, the reigning SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year, continued her standout season by leading all players with 16 kills, three blocks, and a service ace. Alanna Jones added six kills on a sharp .385 hitting percentage, while All-SCIAC First Team selection Zacky Coaston dominated at the net with seven kills and five block assists. Setter Malia Capistrano orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying 17 assists and three aces, as the Leopards' defense stifled Redlands to just a .090 hitting percentage on the night.

But the loudest cheers of the night came at the finish. With the Leopards closing in on victory, junior Abigail Montana stepped up in the clutch. Back-to-back thunderous swings-points 24 and 25-slammed into the court to seal the deal. Her final kill dropped cleanly, and the gym erupted as her teammates rushed the court, celebrating a statement win that symbolized redemption and resilience.

The victory propels La Verne to 25-1 on the year and back to center stage for the SCIAC Tournament Championship this Saturday at 6 p.m. inside The Tents, where they'll battle Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the crown. With momentum and confidence on their side, the Leopards look ready to finish what they started.
