Leopards Fall To Mountaineers in Nail Biter

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne's men's basketball team fought hard against the Schreiner University Mountaineers, but fell 89-86. Kason White, Carlos Bedolla, and Major Hurley played a great game, scoring 60 points among the three of them.

Bedolla made a massive impact off the bench. The senior drained four three-pointers to finish with a career-high 20 points. White led the Leopards on the floor with 22 points and seven rebounds.

La Verne took a one-point lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the game when Higgy Katoa went end-to-end and laid in a fast-break layup. After Schreiner retook the lead, Christian James made a pair of threes to cut the Leopards' deficit to 74-72. But that was as close as the Leopards would get, despite another three from James and Hurley late.

Both teams got hot in the second half, shooting 50% or better and each scoring 51 points. The Leopards drained nine three-pointers from five different players in the final 20 minutes. La Verne shot 50% from beyond-the-arc in the game.

Hurley finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Gray ended with 13 points and four rebounds,

The Leopards are back in action on Friday, November 21st at 5 p.m. at home.
