La Verne Football Wraps Up Season at CMS

CLAREMONT, CA — The University of La Verne football team wrapped up the 2025 season on a soaked, muddy field, falling to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags 5-0 on a rain-filled Saturday afternoon.

The severe weather conditions and drenched field made the ground nearly unplayable, and the passing game was nonexistent for both teams.

The Stags scored the only points of the game on a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter and a safety on La Verne's final possession.

The Leopards finish the season 1-8 overall and 1-7 in SCIAC play.

John Whisnant V led the Leopards with a career-high 12 tackles. D'Artangion Martin also added a career-high 10 tackles. Jonathan Scott finished with 10 tackles with two for losses.

Jonluke Vega added an all-time best nine tackles and blocked a CMS field goal attempt in the second quarter.

La Verne forced three fumbles in the game and recovered two of them. Tuhlon Duncan, Luke Ahkiong, and Devin Martin all knocked the ball loose. Duncan forced a fumble on the Stags' opening drive that Justin Mondini scooped up and returned 16 yards.

Jomar Brown picked up Ahkiong's forced fumble late in the third quarter for a 32-yard return. Jeremiah Naylor totalled seven tackles, and Chase Yanez added six.
