LA VERNE, CA— The University of La Verne women's basketball team took down the visiting Westminster University Blue Jays in a thrilling 66-55 victory, adding another strong performance to the Leopards' growing win total this season.
In the first half,
Alyssa Smith and
Isabella Gray-Musolff helped propel the Leopards forward. Gray-Musolff, a junior transfer from Morro Bay who has started the majority of games this season, showcased her playmaking ability with a 20-point performance. Her determined drives through the lane consistently resulted in impressive finishes at the rim. Smith, always a force on the perimeter, knocked down two three-pointers on Monday-second only to
Kaylee Shimoda. Together, their contributions, paired with a strong defensive presence, kept the Leos firmly in control, taking a 34-20 lead into halftime.
As the second half got underway, the Blue Jays began to chip away at the lead. Smith and Gray-Musolff continued to make impactful plays, while
Maya Sanborn delivered a strong performance of her own. Her six points-most coming from hard-driven layups-helped keep the Leopards within striking distance.
Savannah Evans also provided valuable minutes, contributing several aggressive defensive plays and a key rebound. The Leopards closed out the night with solid late possessions, finishing with a 66-55 victory.
