Women's Water Polo Returns to Las Flores Against Biola

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo team played its first home game in almost a year. The Leopards took on NCAA Division II opponent Biola University, dropping the match 16-9.

La Verne only played one game at Las Flores Park last season, construction on the pool deck forced the Leopards to play at various "home" venues.

Brianna Zapata, fresh off earning the first SCIAC Women's Water Polo Offensive Athlete of the Week honors of the season, led the Leopards with three goals. The senior added two assists, two blocks, one steal, and one drawn exclusion.

Reiley Burton totaled two goals, two assists, and two steals. Olivia Taylor, Nancy Trinh, Gigi Gomez, and Brooklyn Young scored once. Young led the Leopards with three drawn exclusions and Gomez dished two assists.

Miranda Graham grabbed 11 steals in three quarters of work and Kelly Jackson finished with two in the final quarter.

The Leopards have a two-week layoff before returning to action against another DII opponent. La Verne hosts Azusa Pacific University on February 14 at 4 p.m.
