Smith Named All-SCIAC, Howell Earns Ed Baldwin Sportsmanship Award

LA VERNE, CA — Sophomore forward Alyssa Smith earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors, and senior guard Marissa Howell received the Ed Baldwin Sportsmanship Award the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday.

Smith shined in her second year, averaging 13 points and 10 rebounds per game. She finished her season with 308 points, 248 rebounds, and 12 double-doubles. Smith was also recognized as the SCIAC's Offensive Athlete of the Week and La Verne's Leopard of the Week in her 2025 campaign.

Howell is leaving La Verne as one of its most celebrated basketball players. She owns La Verne records for made three-pointers in a game with 12 and career three-pointers with 268. 

She ranks in the top five in free throw percentage (.849), and in the top ten in three-point field goal percentage (.336) and career points (1,205). In her final season, she started all 23 of the Leopard's games, ranked fourth in the conference with 54 three-point baskets, and scored 260. The Ed Baldwin Sportsmanship Award is presented to the senior who exhibits the best sportsmanship throughout the conference season. Howell earned First Team All-SCIAC honors in 2024 and Second Team All-SCIAC honors in 2024.
