Alyssa Campbell hit her second home run of the season and freshman infielder
Raegan Hallett collected four hits as the University of La Verne softball team swept the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Panthers in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Game One: La Verne 9, Pitt-Bradford 0
Per coaches' request. La Verne played game one as the away team and it didn't take long for the Leopards' bats to get hot and capitalize off Pitt-Bradford miscues
Hallet began the top of the second inning with a leadoff walk and freshman infielder
Mackenzie Johnson reached on an error by Bradford sophomore pitcher Krislyn Clement. Senior designated player
Cassandra Gilbert laid down a sacrifice bunt, reached on another error committed by the Panther, and brought in Hallet for the Leopard's first run of the game.
Freshman infielder Janelle Vega followed with a single up the middle, scoring Johnson and bringing up sophomore second baseman Julia Miramontes, who got on base via walk. Senior right fielder Angelina Alderete secured an RBI when she grounded out but brought in Gilbert. Miramontes and Vega came home on a wild pitch and another error, putting the Leopards up early 5-0.
Clement took a tough loss for the Panthers, throwing five innings and giving up five runs (zero earned) on five hits and seven walks. Senior
Alayna Munoz dominated in the circle for La Verne, tossing a complete game shutout, only allowing six hits, and striking out three batters.
The Leopard's cushioned their lead again in the top of the seventh inning, scoring four more runs on four hits before securing their first win of the day.
Game Two: La Verne 9, Pitt-Bradford 1 (5 innings)
Senior
Kirstin Sanchez started game two for the Leopards and was given a quick lead to work with. Campbell opened the scoring in the Leopards' half of the first inning on a long shot that landed beyond the left field fence. La Verne's offense didn't stop there though. Gilbert rocketed a long double to right field, bringing in senior outfielder
Ashley Rodriguez who reached via catcher's interference and Hallet, who walked for the third time of the day. The Leopards put up three more runs on one hit and one error before the inning ended, scoring seven runs in total off Bradford sophomore pitcher Christa Koagel.
Bradford scored their only run of the doubleheader in the top of the third inning off three hits. Sanchez threw three innings, giving up the one run off four hits before being relieved by junior
Jaidynn Alvarez.
The Leopards wasted no time answering back, adding another two runs to their hefty lead in the bottom of the third off one hit and error.
Alvarez was lights out in her two innings pitched and held the eight-run lead, finishing the game for her team in only five innings due to the NCAA run-rule.
Sanchez collected the win, improving her record to 2-1 while the loss went to Koagal, allowing nine runs (five earned), on eight hits and two walks.

The Leopards will look to keep their momentum going when they host the Bethel University Royals on Saturday for a doubleheader, with game one beginning at 3 p.m.
