No. 10 La Verne Dominates MIT, Extends Winning Streak to 10

LA VERNE, CA The No. 10 University of La Verne baseball team extended its winning streak to ten games with a dominant 18-3 victory over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers on Sunday afternoon.

The Leopards opened the scoring in the second inning, pushing four runs across without recording a hit. Four walks and a hit-by-pitch from MIT pitching allowed La Verne to jump out to an early lead.

A triple from outfielder Logan Reese, along with singles from Aidan Salcedo, Daniel Moreno, and Logan Corthell, added three more runs in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 7-2.

The fifth inning proved to be the turning point, as La Verne broke the game wide open. The Leopards sent 17 batters to the plate, scoring 11 runs on five hits, six walks, and two hit-by-pitches, putting the game out of reach.

La Verne's pitching staff delivered a strong performance, allowing only three earned runs. Starting pitcher Lucas Quintana earned the win, tossing four innings, striking out three, and limiting MIT's offense. Tyler Lokar, Corbin Duffield, and Jacob Castro each contributed an inning of relief to close out the game.

Several Leopards delivered standout performances at the plate. Logan Corthell contributed two hits, drove in two runs, and added a run scored, helping to fuel La Verne's offensive surge. Nolan Anguiano also had a strong showing, recording two hits, two RBIs, and crossing the plate three times. Matching Anguiano's production, Jason Givens chipped in with two hits, two RBIs, and three runs scored, playing a key role in the Leopards' commanding victory.

The Leopards look to continue their strong start to the season as they open a three-game series against Franklin and Marshall College on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Ben Hines Field.
