Zapata Named First Team All-SCIAC

LA VERNE, CA — Brianna Zapata has been named First Team All-SCIAC, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Wednesday.

It is Zapata's first First Team All-SCIAC honor. The senior earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors in 2023.


Zapata led the Leopards and ranked fifth in the SCIAC with nine blocks. She also ranked second on La Verne's squad with 42 goals, 27 steals, and 29 assists. The Fontana native added 24 drawn exclusions.

"Bri is an exceptional presence for La Verne water polo and has made a profound impact both inside and outside the pool. Her unwavering passion for the game, coupled with her relentless work ethic and unshakable commitment to her teammates, has solidified her position as a cornerstone of the program. Whether through grueling practices, stepping up in pivotal games, or supporting her teammates, Brianna leads with quiet strength and unwavering determination. She embodies the essence of a La Verne Leopard, driven, selfless, and full of heart. We are honored to have her as a part of this team and grateful for her invaluable contributions to the program," said University of La Verne Interim Water Polo Head Coach Robert Echeverria.


The University of La Verne women's water polo team advanced to the SCIAC Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
