ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne baseball team won a convincing win against Chapman University on Friday, winning by a final of 13-2 at Hart Park.
How it Happened
The Panthers drew first blood in the game with a run in the first. The Leopards responded with timely hitting, scoring five in the second, two in the third, and three in the fourth. They carried their nine-run lead into the eighth inning, where they scored three more times. Chapman scored in the bottom of the inning but was unable to extend the game, leading to the Leos' run-rule win.
Key Players
It was a complete team win with the offense picking up 19 hits and scoring 13 runs.
Matt Rice and
Jason Givens led the team with four hits each. They also combined for three RBIs and three runs scored.
Noah Garcia also had a big day collecting three hits, scoring four times, and driving home two runs.
Nathan Perry and
Logan Reese combined for five hits, three runs, and four RBIs.
La Verne also got a strong outing from starting pitcher
Matthew DesMarets. He pitched a complete game, going seven innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while picking up seven strikeouts. DesMarets moves his season record to 8-1.
Season Impact
With this win, the Leopards move to 27-6 overall and 15-4 in conference play. They continue their postseason push and sit atop the SCIAC standings.
