La Verne Drops Marathon Thriller in 10 Innings, Sets Up Winner-Take-All Rematch

LA VERNE, CA — In a dramatic, back-and-forth battle that lasted 10 innings and nearly four hours, the University of La Verne baseball team fell just short in a 13-12 loss to Pomona-Pitzer in game seven of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The high-stakes contest ran 3 hours and 57 minutes and was filled with momentum swings and clutch performances, setting the stage for a winner-take-all rematch tomorrow.

After a five-run first inning by Pomona-Pitzer threatened to bury the Leopards early, La Verne responded with grit and relentless offense, scoring in six different innings to claw their way back. Logan Reese sparked the comeback with a two-run triple in the bottom of the first, and the momentum continued to build as the Leopards chipped away at the deficit.

The Leo's took its first lead in the fourth and extended it to 10-6 in the seventh, powered by a key RBI triple from Ryan Vosika and a two-RBI double off the bat of Jason Givens

Pomona-Pitzer stormed back in the eighth with a six-run outburst, capitalizing on Leopard miscues and timely hitting to take a 12-10 lead. Again, La Verne responded—Vosika, who was a force throughout, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while he also struck a clutch two-run single in the eighth to tie the game 12-12.

In the tenth, with tensions sky-high, the Sagehens pushed across the go-ahead run on a two-out RBI single up the middle from JC Ng-his third hit of the night.

La Verne's final hope in the bottom of the 10th was extinguished after a quick 1-2-3 inning, ending one of the most emotionally draining games of the tournament. Both dugouts were on edge inning after inning, and every pitch carried postseason weight.

The Leopards (33-9) will now face Pomona-Pitzer (30-14) one final time in the SCIAC Tournament Championship Game. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Ben Hines Field in a true win-or-go-home finale.
