REDLANDS, CA — The No. 7 University of La Verne baseball team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a doubleheader split at Redlands on Saturday, falling in a narrow 7-6 battle in the opener before powering to a 10-3 win in the finale at The Yard. With the series win, the Leopards clinched their third consecutive SCIAC Regular Season Championship—marking the program's first three-peat since 1985–1987 and securing the 100th combined team championship in University of La Verne Athletics history (National, SCIAC Regular Season, and SCIAC Tournament titles).
Game One: Redlands 7, La Verne 6
La Verne came out strong, putting up three runs in the first inning behind a Logan Corthell RBI single and a two-run knock from Nate Perry. However, Redlands countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a two-RBI double by Nate Miller.
The Leopards tied things up in the second when Aaron Whobrey reached on a fielders choice and took a late 5-4 lead in the seventh thanks to a Jake Ledford RBI fielder's choice and a savvy steal of home by Jason Givens. Redlands answered with a three-run frame in the bottom half and held off La Verne's rally in the ninth to secure the win.
Ryan Vosika continued to shine with a 3-for-3 performance, and Perry added two hits and a pair of RBIs. Ethan Galindo struck out five over 6.2 innings, and Garret Halbeisen was charged with the loss.
Game Two: La Verne 10, Redlands 3
La Verne made a statement in the final game of the series, exploding for 10 runs on 11 hits while capitalizing on five Bulldog errors. Ryan Vosika again led the charge, going 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, while Aidan Salcedo went 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run.
After a two-run first and a three-run second, the Leopards added to their lead with a two-run homer from Logan Reese in the fifth. Salcedo's rare solo round-tripper in the eighth and an RBI single from Noah Garcia rounded out the scoring.
Caughlin Shults allowed just two hits and one run in four innings. Andrew Wente earned the win with three shutout frames, while the bullpen struck out 12 Redlands batters throughout the game.
History Made
With Saturday's results, La Verne (31-8, 18-6 SCIAC) secures its third straight SCIAC regular-season crown. It's the first time the Leopards have achieved a conference three-peat since their five-title run from 1983–1987. The 2025 championship also marks the 100th combined team title in school history-spanning national championships, SCIAC regular-season titles, and SCIAC Tournament wins.
