LA VERNE, CA – The University of La Verne men's water polo team came up short against the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday afternoon in their SCIAC opener, 20-11.
The Leopards started quickly scoring four of the first five goals courtesy of Timothy Robles, Josh Lamberton, and Jordan Baker. The Sagehens then ripped off six consecutive goals to take the lead and would eventually carry that momentum all the way to the finish line.
Junior duo Timothy Robles and Jordan Baker had strong showings. Baker found the net once with a goal, and assisted on four others while Robles scored twice in addition to two assists. Lamberton, a sophomore transfer from Cerritos College, led the Leos in scoring with five goals and also picked up an assist. The Leopards stepped on their own tails picking up 23 exclusions and the Sagehens took advantage, converting 10 power play attempts and two penalty shots.
Henry De Luna did his part, recording 12 saves including a penatly shot save.
The Leopards will travel to Pasadena to continue SCIAC play against the Caltech Beavers on October 1 at 7 p.m.
