ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne football team opened SCIAC play on Saturday night, competing hard in a 56–6 road contest against Chapman at Ernie Chapman Stadium.
The Leopards' highlight came in the third quarter when quarterback
Ahmias Hart connected with wide receiver
Jimmy Rumsey for an electrifying 54-yard touchdown, showcasing the Leopards' big-play potential. Rumsey finished with five receptions for 94 yards to lead all Leopard receivers. Hart finished with 143 yards through the air.
On defense, senior
Chase Yanez anchored the unit with 10 tackles, while linebacker D'Artangion Martin added nine stops and the team's lone sack. Sophomore punter
Joshua Workizer was strong in the kicking game, averaging over 40 yards per punt with a long of 63.
Dylan Reiner finished with eight tackles and Talan LaMattin tallied seven.
The Leopards will look to build on Saturday's performance as they return home next weekend for Homecoming at Ortmayer Stadium. La Verne will host the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday, October 4, at 4 p.m.
