LOS ANGELES, CA — The University of La Verne women's basketball team lost to the Occidental Tigers on Monday night, 67-46. Oxy's full court press had the Leopards struggling to find an offensive rhythm.
Junior transfer Maya Sanborn led La Verne in scoring with 10 points going 3-5 from the field while also recording seven rebounds and a block. Kaylee Shimoda and Jasmine Prajtino each contributed eight points and Samantha Miller poured in seven of her own.
The Leopards started the first quarter off cold as Oxy was able to jump out to a 14-0 lead. However, an eight to three run fueled by tough defense and interior scoring cut the deficit to single digits heading into the second.
The second period saw more of the same as the Leos didn't get their first bucket until the 4:08 mark. At halftime, the score stood at 39-19.
Both sides had their best defensive efforts with just 20 total point scorers in the third. Despite that, the Leopards were unable to get enough offensive production to mount a comeback, and the Tigers won 67-46.
Up next, the Leopards will continue their stretch away from home and head to Claremont to take on the CMS Athenas on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
