FULLERTON, CA — The University of La Verne softball team opened their 2026 season against Hope International University in a Saturday doubleheader, falling to the Royals 4-0 and 4-1.

Brooke Petretti had a standout performance in game two, going three for three with a triple while senior pitcher
Jaidynn Alvarez tossed three scoreless innings.Â

Sophomore first baseman
Alexis Keifer brought in the Leopards lone run of the day when she connected for an RBI double to left center in the top of the fourth inning, bringing in Petretti.

In game one, HIU starting pitcher Kaitlyn Maaske kept La Verne's offense quiet, no hitting the Leopards and leading the Royals to victory.

La Verne will be back in action on Saturday, February 13, hosting the Trinity University Tigers at Campus West in a doubleheader with game times at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
