BELTON, TX — The University of La Verne baseball team opened up a three game series in Texas against the University of Mary Hardin Baylor on Friday night with a 14-2 loss. Ryan Vosika and Aaron Whobrey each had a hit and a run scored, but the Leos couldn't get past crooked numbers put up by the Crusaders.
Isaiah Figueroa and RJ Libby also added to the box score, collecting the two RBIs in the game for La Verne. As a team, the Leopards recorded four hits, and left nine on base.
The scoring started in the first, when Figueroa laced a ball to right which brought home Vosika. In the third, Libby grounded out to second, but Whobrey came in to score on the play.
Justin Ries got the start, pitching two innings and allowing seven runs, despite only three being earned. Aiden Nunez and James Moya were the first two out of the pen and combined for seven earned runs across three frames. The pitching settled down when Jaden Guzman took over, as he delivered a solid scoreless inning, striking out one batter.
Up next, the Leopards will continue the weekend series against the Crusaders on Saturday with first pitch set for 1 p.m central, 11 a.m pacific.
