LA VERNE, CA – The University of La Verne softball team finished with a record 22 hits and rolled past the Minnesota Morris Courgars, 19-2 in a five-inning run-rule win.
The 22 hits are the most in a single game in modern program history. The Leopards' 18 RBIs and 21 runs are the most since 2015, when the Leopards finished with 21 RBIs and 21 runs against Cal Lutheran.
Bryce Shroyer had a career game, finishing with seven RBIs, three hits, and two runs. All of her hits went for extra bases as she tallied her first career home run and added two doubles. Shroyer started the showdown by doubling in the first, scoring
Janelle Vega and
Alexis Keifer. She hit a three-run homer in the second inning as part of a 10-run frame that put the Leopards up 15-0.
Mikayla Galaviz made her debut start for the Leopards and proved herself by totaling four RBIs, two hits, one run, and a stolen base. The junior transfer was a part of the scoring frenzy in the second inning when she drove in
Allison Gutierrez and
Kileah Lologo with a single to left.
Janelle Vega had a perfect game at the plate, finishing 3-3 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs.
Alexis Keifer also went 3-3 with two doubles and three runs.
Lologo and Colenzo added two hits, two RBIs, and one run apiece. Guiterrez added two hits, three runs, and a stolen base.
Annica Luna totaled two hits and two runs.
Aleiah Kupihea added a triple.
Angelina Garcia earned the win in the circle for La Verne, tossing five innings and striking out three.
The Leopards held the Cougars scoreless until the fourth inning.
Game One: Minnesota Morris 3, La Verne 2
The Leopards held a 2-1 lead entering the seventh but the Cougars plated two runs in the top of the inning to beat the Leopards 3-2.
Allison Gutierrez led the Leos with two hits, one run, and one RBI.
Alyssa Tafolla started for the Leopards, pitching 5.2 innings, striking out three, and allowing zero earned runs.
La Verne is back in action on Saturday, March 21, at 12 p.m. against the Whitworth Pirates at home.
