ORANGE, CA – The University of La Verne baseball team dropped both games of their Saturday doubleheader to the Chapman University Panthers by scores of 9-4 and 5-2.
Â
Seniors
Aidan Salcedo and
Nathan Perry continued their strong senior campaigns. Salcedo racked up five total hits, an RBI and a run scored while Perry added another three hits to his stat sheet. Despite picking up his first loss of the season in game two,
Jack Holguin pitched a solid 5.1 innings, allowing only three earned runs off five hits.Â
Â
Game One: Chapman 9, La Verne 5
With Leopards down two in the top of the fifth inning,
Alek Bautista singled through the left side and brought in two runners to tie the game back up at four runs a team. That would be it for La Verne in game one though, as they were unable to overcome a powerful five run sixth inning from the Panthers.
Â
Game Two: Chapman 5, La Verne 2
Â
Chapman took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two, but La Verne responded quickly, scoring their two runs of the game in the top of the third when
RJ Libby came around to score on a Perry RBI single to right field and a
Lucas Zayac double that brought in Salcedo.
Â
The Panthers scraped across two more insurance runs to secure the sweep.
