Â
La Verne opened scoring in the top of the second inning when Perry and
RJ Libby drew back-to-back walks from Caltech starter Brendan Flaherty. Bautista followed, getting hit by a pitch and
Jake Ledford reached first on a fielder's choice, allowing Perry to cross the plate for the first run of the game. The inning continued with Libby eventually scoring on a passed ball and
Daniel Moreno reaching base on a fielding error which also brought in Ledford to put the Leopards up 3-0.
Â
Whobrey began the top of the third with his first career home run as a Leopard, and La Verne continued to tack on runs in the fourth when Bautista tripled and scored on another Caltech fielding error. The Leopards scored two more runs off three hits in the top of the fifth to put the score at 7-0.
Â
The Beavers scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fifth, but Bautista answered right back in the top half of the sixth inning, turning on the wheels and hitting an inside the park home run to centerfield. The rally continued for La Verne, scoring a total of four runs off three hits in the frame and leading to the 11-1, seven inning run rule win.Â
