SANTA BARBARA, CA – The University of La Verne men's soccer team competed in their season opener Tuesday afternoon, earning a hard fought 2-2 tie against Division II Westmont College.
Two minutes into the contest one of the newest Leopards, Isaiah Barber, started his La Verne career off with a bang. He scored his first career goal before the clock reached three minutes off an assist by Kevin Arreola.
The Warriors evened teh score in teh 29th minute to send the game into the break tied 1-1.
The Leopards started the second half fast. In the 51st minute. This time Aiden Tapia-Palacios assisted on Diego Soto's first goal of the season to take a 2-1 lead. Westmont found the equalizer just over 10 minutes later to salvage a draw.
In goal, Lorenzo Chavez Borrelli held things down with three saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Leopards come back to Ortmayer Stadium for their home opener against George Fox University September 3 at 7 p.m.
