LOS ANGELES – Alexander Bastidas scored the equalizer with 19 seconds remaining in the game to help the University of La Verne men's soccer team begin SCIAC play with a 2-2 draw against the Occidental College Tigers.
A big performance for the Leopards, who held strong for a result against the reigning SCIAC champions.
The hero of Wednesday's contest, Bastidas, scored both of the squad's goals.
His first came in the 20th minute to make it 1-1.
Tyler Valdez won a ball in the box and fired off a shot that Oxy's keeper deflected. Bastidas waited in the perfect spot and one-touched a shot to the back of the net.
With under 30 seconds left to play, the Leopards heaved a ball into the box. Bastidas plucked the ball from a Tiger defender and put away his second goal of the night.
Bastidas now has three goals and two assists on the season and leads the Leopards with eight total points.
Joshua Simonton stayed busy between the pipes, fending of 23 shots and finishing with six saves.
The Leopards return home for their next game, taking on Chapman Saturday at 7 p.m. at Ortmayer Stadium.
