LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's soccer team broke a 0-0 tie midway through the second half and looked poised to pull off a big win Wednesday night against Chapman.
But the Panthers found a way to score late to even the score and end the game in a 1-1 tie.
"Our conference is so difficult. Everyone is hard to play. Winning the game would have put us in a really good position. We played hard and took the lead. Chapman did well to respond and we couldn't withstand the storm. We are choosing to not focus on what happened in the last two min of the game and instead focus on the last two games that we are in control of," said University of La Verne women's soccer head coachÂ
Lauryn Pehanich.
The Leopards broke the stalemate off a setpiece in the 67th minute.
Kayla Allen lined for a corner kick and drilled a pass across the box to a waiting and unmarked Â
Shelbie Mueller. Mueller timed her shot perfectly and landed a shot off her right foot to the back of the net to put La Verne up 1-0.
The Panthers evened the game with just over two minutes remaining in regulation when Sidney Karjian sent a long cross into the box and Jenna Urrabazo headed it in for the equalizer.
The Leopards' defenders held the Panthers to just one shot in the first half before Chapman stepped up their attack in the final 45 minutes requiring La Verne keeper
Abigail Macedo to make five second-half saves
La Verne now stands at 4-6-5 overall and 2-4-4 in the SCIAC.
