LA VERNE, CA — University of La Verne football player Oscar Montenegro and men's water polo player Peter Trinh have been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced.

Montenegro was named SCIAC Football Defensive Athlete of the Week after adding a spark in the Leopards' win over Cal Lutheran. He picked off a pass at the eight-yard line and returned it 92 yards for a La Verne touchdown. Less than two minutes later he forced and recovered a fumble that led to a La Verne field goal. He finished the game with four tackles including one for a loss.

Trinh was unstoppable in a pair of wins for the Leopards. He closed out the season with eight goals in a 23-7 win over Whittier. He started the week scoring four goals in a close 9-7 win over Cal Lutheran. He also added four assists and three blocks in the wins.
