LA VERNE, CA – Four lead changes in the final minute led to an exciting finish inside the Tents between the University of La Verne men's basketball team and the visiting Park University Gilbert Buccaneers. The Leopards had a last-chance shot opportunity to tie or close out the game but ultimately fell short 84-80.
Junior guard Dahmaj Warren led all Leopards in scoring, dropping 18 points. With less than five seconds left and the Buccaneers ahead 82-80, Warren heaved a do-or-die three-point attempt that fell short. He was one of four Leos with double-digit points.
Junior guard Darius Gayton racked up 16, carried by three clutch shots beyond the arc to close a large Bucs' lead in the first half. Grad student guard Paul Antonis tallied 14, and senior forward Kyler Harvey had 12.
La Verne trailed by seven in the first half, then overcame that deficit to lead by seven entering halftime. The Leopards led by as much as 10 throughout the contest, but the game was separated by one possession for nearly the final four minutes and just two possessions for nearly the entirety of the second half.
The Leopards fall to 3-3 overall this season and look ahead to another home game on Sunday, Dec. 17 against Albion College at 2 pm.
